Jammu , August 1, 2025 : A local engineering student accused of attempting to run over a 68-year-old businessman during a road rage incident in Jammu’s upscale Gandhi Nagar area has been remanded to six days of police custody.

Manan Anand, a resident of Nanak Nagar, allegedly rammed his Thar SUV into businessman Kamal Dutta twice on Sunday afternoon, triggering public outrage. He was arrested on Wednesday following swift police action and mounting pressure from the public.

On Thursday, a Judicial Magistrate (1st Class) granted police remand until August 5, based on an FIR registered at the Gandhi Nagar police station under Sections 281, 125(a), and 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The court noted that Section 109 is non-bailable and the investigation is still at a preliminary stage. The remand was granted after reviewing the accused’s medical and fitness certificates.

The court also directed police to produce Anand before it upon the expiry of the remand and ordered a medical examination every 24 hours during his custody.
