SRINAGAR, August 8, 2025 : The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested Umar Nawaz, a Junior Assistant posted in the office of the Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Rajouri, for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹4,000.
According to an official statement, the accused, who also held additional charge as Jr. Assistant in the Sub-Registrar office, allegedly demanded ₹15,000 from a complainant for processing the registration of three marlas of land. The amount was later negotiated to ₹4,000.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB, which registered an FIR (No. 04/2025) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). A trap was laid, and Umar Nawaz, son of Naseer Hussain and a resident of Saaz, Thanamandi, was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.
The bribe amount was recovered in the presence of independent witnesses. Searches were also conducted at the accused’s residence in Thanamandi. Further investigation is underway.
