SRINAGAR, Aug 12, 2025 : Speaker of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, on Tuesday carried out a surprise inspection of the Legislature Hostel in Srinagar to assess ongoing development and upgradation works aimed at improving facilities for legislators.
Accompanied by Assembly Secretary Manoj Kumar Pandita, senior officers, and engineers from various wings, the Speaker inspected the new block, reviewing the pace and quality of civil works, infrastructure upgrades, and amenities. He directed executing agencies to maintain high workmanship standards, utilize public resources efficiently, and strictly adhere to deadlines.
Taking serious note of delays, Rather ordered immediate renovation of rooms damaged in a recent fire and expressed displeasure over the pending reconstruction of the compound wall damaged in the 2014 floods.
Chairing a follow-up meeting, the Speaker stressed the need for modern amenities, regular maintenance, and proper upkeep to meet legislators’ requirements with dignity. He also reviewed staff welfare issues, directing timely Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meetings, enforcement of discipline, and a proper uniform code for hostel employees.
“Legislators are the face of democracy and must be provided facilities worthy of their role,” the Speaker affirmed.
