New Delhi, Aug 14, 2025 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday spoke with the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir to review the situation after a massive cloudburst in Kishtwar’s Chasoti village, which has claimed at least 12 lives.
Shah assured all possible assistance to the affected families, stating that the Centre is closely monitoring the situation. “The local administration is carrying out relief and rescue operations, and NDRF teams have been rushed to the site,” he posted on X.
The disaster struck between 12 noon and 1 pm in Chasoti – the last motorable point to the Machail Mata temple – as hundreds of devotees had gathered for the annual yatra. The 8.5 km trek to the shrine begins here.
Officials fear the death toll could rise as rescue teams continue search operations in the remote, flood-hit area.
