Jammu, Aug 14, 2025 : Jammu and Kashmir Police has emerged as the top gallantry award winner in the country, bagging 127 Gallantry Medals on Independence Day 2025. The honours were announced by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs as part of the annual medal list for Police, Fire Services, Home Guard, Civil Defence, and Correctional Services.
In addition to the gallantry awards, J&K Police also secured two President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service and 14 Police Medals for Meritorious Service.
The unprecedented tally reflects the force’s critical role in counter-insurgency, internal security, and maintaining law and order in one of India’s most sensitive regions.
J&K Police’s gallantry awards far exceeded those of other forces, with the CRPF receiving 20, Uttar Pradesh Police 17, Chhattisgarh Police 14, and Odisha Police 9 — underscoring the extraordinary challenges and exceptional bravery of the personnel in the Union Territory.
