Srinagar, Aug 14, 2025 : People’s Conference chief Sajad Gani Lone on Thursday urged the Jammu and Kashmir government to convene an emergency Legislative Assembly session within two days to pass a resolution seeking restoration of statehood.
“Trust me, a very sincere advice – call an emergency session and let us pass a resolution,” Lone said, citing the Supreme Court proceedings on the statehood plea as a reason for forming a united political front.
Addressing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the Handwara MLA said, “You have dealt with the BJP before, as have I. What matters is not what they tell you, but what they don’t tell you. Get off your high horse, stop persecuting the opposition, halt punitive transfers, and build a common front for statehood first.”
Lone criticised the CM for taking the matter to the cabinet instead of the Assembly, saying the resolution could have been sent to the Supreme Court today if passed by legislators.
He also cautioned against “unrepresentative petitioners” approaching the court on constitutional matters, questioning who filed the plea, who is representing J&K, and whether the counsel is “competent and honest” in presenting the case.
