Jammu, August 19, 2025 : The Jammu and Kashmir Congress urged the Centre to announce a special relief and rehabilitation package for victims of the August 14 cloudburst in Chisoti village, Kishtwar, which left 63 dead, 116 injured, and 82 missing.
J&K Congress president Tariq Hameed Karra raised the demand during a party meeting in Kishtwar district, attended by senior leaders including working president Raman Bhalla and former minister G M Saroori. The meeting reviewed the ongoing rescue operations, organisational activities, and the situation in the affected areas.
Karra, who visited Chisoti with a party delegation on Sunday, appealed to the Centre to step in with a comprehensive rehabilitation package for the affected families.
Echoing the demand, Bhalla said the tragedy should have been declared a national disaster, with adequate compensation for those impacted.
