Srinagar, August 21, 2025 : To strengthen the fight against human trafficking in the digital era, the Crime Branch Headquarters J&K, in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, organized a UT-level conference on Anti-Human Trafficking at Tagore Hall, Srinagar, on Thursday.
The event aimed to raise awareness among students and the general public about the challenges and social impact of human trafficking.
IGP Crime J&K, Sujit Kumar, outlined the objectives of the conference, which was held under the guidance of DIG Crime J&K and overall supervision of the IGP Crime Branch. Special DG Coordination, PHQ J&K, S.J.M Gillani, who presided as chief guest, urged collective efforts to eradicate the menace from society.
The conference was attended by senior police officers, ADGP Alok Kumar (Director Fire & Emergency Services, J&K), IGP PHQ Uttam Chand, judicial officers, representatives from Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, and Labour Departments, besides students from Kashmir University’s Faculty of Law, colleges, schools, BSF officers, NGOs, and nodal officers of Anti-Human Trafficking Units (AHTUs).
Expert speakers, including Rajesh Mani, consultant on child rights and anti-trafficking, and Ravi Kant, Supreme Court advocate and founder of Shakti Vahini, shared insights and strategies to combat trafficking through lectures and presentations. They stressed on coordinated action to dismantle trafficking networks and protect vulnerable communities.
The conference also provided a platform for stakeholders to share experiences and frame effective strategies for prevention, victim support, and enforcement. Mementoes were presented to dignitaries and speakers, while SSP Mohammad Fiesel Qureshi, SO to IGP Crime, delivered the vote of thanks.
