JAMMU, April 4, 2026 : In a significant breakthrough, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has arrested an absconder accused in a minor rape case after he remained on the run for nearly five years.
The accused, Avtar Singh, a resident of Thakrai village in Kishtwar, was wanted in connection with an FIR registered in 2021 under relevant sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Arrest in Himachal Pradesh
Acting on specific intelligence, a police team conducted a well-coordinated raid in Himachal Pradesh and successfully apprehended the accused.
Officials confirmed that he had been evading arrest since 2021 in a case involving the alleged rape of a minor.
Police Warning to Absconders
Senior Superintendent of Police Naresh Singh issued a stern warning to absconders, urging them to surrender at the nearest police station.
He emphasized that strict action will be taken under provisions of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) against those who continue to evade arrest.
