Jammu, February 1, 2026 : The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Sunday trapped and arrested a Junior Engineer posted in the BDO Office, Gulabgarh, Mahore (Reasi) for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹8,000 for official work.
The accused has been identified as Rahul Gandotra, Junior Engineer (JE), presently working as Technical Assistant (TA). Notably, three cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act are already registered against him and are under investigation.
According to an official statement, the ACB registered FIR No. 03/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at Police Station ACB Udhampur. The case was initiated after a complainant alleged that the accused demanded a bribe for the preparation of a bill related to RDD work executed by the complainant.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB for legal action. Following a discreet verification, which confirmed the demand of illegal gratification, a formal case was registered and investigation commenced.
Subsequently, a trap team headed by a DySP-rank officer was constituted. The team laid a successful trap, and the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹8,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses.
The ACB team arrested the accused on the spot after completing all legal formalities. The bribe amount was recovered from his possession, and a search operation was also conducted at his residence at H. No. 215, Ward No. 24, Rehari, Jammu, in the presence of a Magistrate.
The ACB reiterated that three earlier FIRs under the Prevention of Corruption Act have already been registered against the accused at PS ACB Udhampur, all of which are currently under investigation.
Further investigation in the present case is underway.
