Srinagar, February 13, 2026 : General Secretary of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference, Ali Mohammad Sagar, on Friday expressed deep sorrow over the demise of former Minister and senior party leader Qamar Ali Akhoon, terming his passing a great loss to the party and the people of Kargil-Ladakh.
In a condolence message, Sagar described Akhoon as a towering political figure who dedicated his entire life to public service, especially for the people of Kargil and remote areas of Ladakh. He said Akhoon stood for integrity, simplicity and unwavering commitment to justice and development.
Recalling their long association, Sagar said he had shared a close personal and political bond with the departed leader for more than three decades. He noted that during his tenure in the Public Works Department, Akhoon served as Minister of State and demonstrated exceptional administrative ability, honesty and a people-centric approach.
Sagar further said that Akhoon consistently highlighted issues related to infrastructure, education and welfare, and played a significant role in addressing the aspirations of marginalized communities in far-flung regions. He described him as a principled and courageous leader who never compromised on his values.
Stating that the void created by Akhoon’s demise would be difficult to fill, Sagar said the people of Kargil and Ladakh have lost a sincere representative who understood their concerns and worked tirelessly for their upliftment.
On behalf of the party leadership and workers, Sagar extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to the family to bear the irreparable loss.
