SRINAGAR, April 9, 2026 : Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari on Thursday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfil commitments made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the youth.
Call for Centre to Deliver on Promises
Speaking to reporters, Bukhari said that while people in Jammu and Kashmir have chosen the path of peace over the past several years, it is now time for the Centre to reciprocate.
“I want to remind the honourable Prime Minister to fulfil the promises made to the people, especially the youth of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
On US–Iran Ceasefire
Welcoming the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, Bukhari expressed hope that it becomes permanent and contributes to long-term global stability.
Concern Over Detainees
The Apni Party chief also raised concerns about individuals from Jammu and Kashmir allegedly lodged in jails without trial.
“Hundreds of people are languishing in jails. They should be released so that justice is upheld,” he said.
Criticism of UT Government
Taking a swipe at the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference government, Bukhari questioned its performance.
“There is confusion whether this government exists or not. Even after 18 months, none of the promises made have been fulfilled,” he remarked.
Conclusion
Bukhari’s remarks highlight ongoing political debates in the Union Territory over governance, accountability, and delivery on public commitments.
