Srinagar/Jammu, July 31, 2025: The Amarnath Yatra resumed on Thursday from the Baltal axis in Kashmir Valley after a day’s suspension due to heavy rains, while the pilgrimage from Jammu remained halted owing to adverse weather conditions.
Officials said no fresh batch of pilgrims was allowed to proceed from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu toward the shrine located in the South Kashmir Himalayas.
Due to ongoing maintenance on the Pahalgam axis, which was affected by torrential rains, the pilgrimage will continue only through the Baltal route until further notice.
“The yatra resumed this morning via the Baltal route,” an official confirmed. “However, repairs are ongoing on the Pahalgam stretch, and therefore, all movement is restricted to Baltal.”
Meanwhile, no convoy movement was permitted from Jammu to either Baltal or Nunwan base camps today. Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, said the decision was taken in view of the unsafe conditions due to rains in the yatra zone.
Pilgrims at the Jammu base camp will stay put at Bhagwati Nagar under tight security until the weather permits safe passage to the twin base camps.
This marks the second suspension of the yatra from Jammu this season — the earlier disruption was reported on July 17 due to similar weather conditions.
Despite weather challenges, the pilgrimage continues to witness high turnout. So far, over 3.93 lakh pilgrims have offered prayers at the sacred 3,880-metre-high cave shrine. Since the flag-off on July 2 by LG Manoj Sinha, 1,44,124 pilgrims have departed from Jammu base camp.
The 38-day-long annual pilgrimage is set to conclude on August 9, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan.
