New Delhi, October 7, 2025 : President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday lauded the Indian Armed Forces for demonstrating exemplary jointness, strategic foresight, and operational synergy during Operation Sindoor, which led to the dismantling of terrorist infrastructure across the Line of Control (LoC).
Addressing the faculty and course members of the 65th National Defence College (NDC) at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President said that India’s evolving security landscape demands dynamic and coordinated military responses backed by technological modernization and inter-service integration.
“Our armed forces demonstrated the strength of jointness and strategic foresight during Operation Sindoor. The calibrated, tri-service response resulted in effective synergy. This synergy was behind the successful campaign to dismantle terror infrastructure across the LoC and deeper inside territories across the border,” the President said.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025, following the Pahalgam terror attack, and involved precision strikes on terror camps and infrastructure in Pakistan-controlled territories. The operation lasted four days, concluding on May 10, after an understanding to halt military actions was reached.
President Murmu commended the leadership of the armed forces, noting that jointness and integration were now central to India’s defence transformation.
“The process of promoting jointness began with the creation of the Department of Military Affairs with the Chief of Defence Staff as its secretary. Efforts are underway to restructure forces through the establishment of Integrated Theatre Commands and Integrated Battle Groups,” she noted.
Emphasizing India’s civilizational ethos of peace and universal brotherhood, Murmu said that the nation’s military preparedness coexists with its commitment to harmony.
“Our tradition views the world as one family — Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. Peace and non-violence are our guiding values, but we also believe in being battle-ready to defeat forces harmful to humanity and our nation,” she said.
Drawing inspiration from the Mahabharata, the President underlined India’s balanced approach to war and peace.
“Every effort was made to avoid war, but when conflict became unavoidable, Arjuna was advised by Krishna to fight without hesitation. This holistic approach defines India’s view of peace and preparedness,” she added.
Murmu also reflected on the symbolic proximity of ‘Gandhi Smriti’ and the National Defence College, saying it represents India’s integrated philosophy of peace and strength.
“It is as if nature placed these two institutions together to remind us of our shared values,” the President said.
