Jammu, February 7, 2026 : Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi on Friday visited forward areas in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, where he reviewed the operational preparedness of troops deployed along the frontier and interacted with personnel at forward locations. He commended the troops for their high morale, professionalism and combat readiness.

During the visit, the Army Chief also stopped at Kamsar village, where he met Subedar (Honorary Captain) Parvez Ahmed (Retd) of 18 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles. General Dwivedi and the veteran JCO had served together on several occasions, including during the period when the Army Chief commanded the battalion between 2002 and 2005.

Sub Parvez Ahmed joined the Indian Army in March 1991 and retired in March 2019 after 28 years of distinguished service. His career included extensive operational tenures and instructional assignments at training establishments. He also excelled in specialised military courses and was decorated for his service.

Post-retirement, the veteran continued to serve society and remained closely associated with the Army and the local community. During Operation Sindoor, he played a crucial role in supporting deployed troops through logistics and local coordination, operating at personal risk during periods of heightened tension. His efforts earned him special recognition from the Army.

In acknowledgement of his continued contribution and exemplary service to the nation, General Dwivedi felicitated Sub Parvez Ahmed with the Veteran Achiever Award. Family members, ex-servicemen and local residents were present on the occasion.

Several other veterans and civilians, including women and children from nearby areas, also interacted with the Army Chief. The informal exchanges reflected the deep-rooted bond between the Indian Army, its veterans and border communities, where military service remains an integral part of everyday life.

The visit underscored the Army’s enduring connection with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and its commitment to safeguarding the region while honouring those who have served the nation.
