Jammu, September 2, 2025 : The Army on Monday foiled an infiltration attempt by a group of Pakistani terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in Balakot sector of Poonch district, averting a potential terror strike in the Jammu region.
Infiltration Attempt and Army Response
According to a statement issued by the Nagrota-based White Knight Corps, the incident occurred around 5:30 am when troops detected suspicious movement near the LoC.
“Alert soldiers immediately opened fire, preventing the infiltration bid. Own troops have been repositioned and re-oriented to ensure foolproof domination of the area using all available means. Troops are maintaining high alert in their respective areas,” the Army said.
Troops deployed in Dabbi village picked up the movement with the help of surveillance gadgets before engaging the infiltrators. Sources said the group comprised 3–4 heavily armed terrorists, who carried AK-series rifles and ammunition. Initial reports suggest that one or two terrorists managed to retreat to the Pakistani side after the exchange of fire.
Search Operation and Exchange of Fire
Following the encounter, the Army launched a massive search operation in the area to track down any terrorists who might still be hiding.
Security officials confirmed that intense firing resumed when search parties moved closer to the suspected hideout area. Reinforcements have been rushed, and combing operations are continuing across the forested terrain of Balakot sector.
Strategic Context
The infiltration bid coincided with the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Jammu, where he reviewed the situation in the aftermath of recent heavy rains and flash floods that caused widespread destruction last month.
Officials said that the incident highlights Pakistan’s continued attempts to push terrorists into Indian territory despite adverse weather conditions and heightened border surveillance.
Current Situation
While no casualties were reported on the Indian side, the Army has maintained a high level of alert along the LoC to prevent any further attempts. Search operations remain ongoing in the region.
