NEW DELHI, August 3, 2025 : SpiceJet on Sunday confirmed that a senior Army officer assaulted four of its ground staff at Srinagar airport on July 26, after being asked to pay for excess cabin baggage. One staff member suffered a spinal fracture, and an FIR has been lodged with the local police.
The incident occurred at the boarding gate of flight SG-386 to Delhi. According to the airline, the passenger was carrying two cabin bags totaling 16 kg—more than double the permitted 7 kg limit. When asked to pay the excess baggage fee, he allegedly refused and forcibly entered the aerobridge without completing security procedures, prompting intervention from CISF personnel.
At the gate, the situation escalated. Video clips circulating on social media show the officer attacking staff with punches, kicks, and a queue stand. One staffer collapsed unconscious, but the passenger allegedly continued to assault him. Another employee suffered serious jaw injuries, bleeding from the nose and mouth.
SpiceJet stated that it has secured CCTV footage and handed it over to police. The airline has also written to the Civil Aviation Ministry, seeking action against the passenger and has initiated the process to place him on the no-fly list as per aviation rules.
Condemning the violence, SpiceJet said it will pursue the matter to its legal and regulatory conclusion.
The incident comes a day after IndiGo imposed a flying ban on a passenger who assaulted a co-traveller on a Mumbai-Kolkata flight.
