Srinagar, August 4, 2025: An Army officer has been booked for allegedly assaulting four SpiceJet staffers at Srinagar airport on July 26 following a dispute over excess cabin baggage.
According to SpiceJet’s statement issued Sunday, the officer physically attacked ground staff at the boarding gate of flight SG-386 to Delhi after being informed about exceeding the 7 kg cabin baggage limit. He was reportedly carrying 16 kg across two bags and refused to pay the excess baggage fee.
The airline said the officer forcefully entered the aerobridge without completing boarding formalities and was brought back by a CISF personnel. At the gate, he allegedly became violent, punching and kicking staff members and assaulting one with a queue stand.
“One employee suffered a spinal fracture, another collapsed unconscious while others sustained serious injuries. One was kicked in the jaw, resulting in bleeding from the nose and mouth,” the airline stated.
Video footage of the incident has circulated on social media, showing parts of the scuffle.
An FIR was registered following a police complaint by the airline. SpiceJet has also approached the Ministry of Civil Aviation to place the accused on the no-fly list and handed over CCTV footage to law enforcement.
Meanwhile, the officer has filed a counter-complaint at Budgam police station, alleging provocation and harassment by the airline staff. A counter-FIR has also been registered.
Responding to the incident, the Army said, “The matter involving an alleged altercation between an Army personnel and airline staff at Srinagar Airport is under investigation. The Army upholds the highest standards of discipline and is extending full cooperation to the authorities.”
