Baramulla, March 31, 2026 : In a swift humanitarian operation, the Indian Army rescued 34 individuals, including 30 students and 4 teachers, who were trapped inside a school hostel in Baramulla following sudden flooding caused by heavy rainfall.
Officials said continuous downpour led to a sharp rise in water levels in a stream in the Watargam area of Rafiabad, cutting off all escape routes and leaving those inside stranded.
Rescue Operation
- Army teams launched an immediate rescue mission after locals sought help
- Despite dangerously high water levels, all 34 individuals were safely evacuated
- The rescued were shifted to secure locations without any casualties
Post-rescue, the Army provided medical assistance and refreshments to the evacuated students and staff.
The operation was carried out with support from police, district administration, and local youth, highlighting strong community coordination.

Meanwhile, a snow avalanche was reported in the Gurez Valley of Bandipora district. However, officials confirmed no damage, as it remained confined to higher mountainous areas.
