Jammu, November 18, 2025 : Authorities on Tuesday carried out comprehensive locker inspections at the Government Medical College (GMC) and Sri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) hospitals in Jammu, officials said. The checks were conducted under tight security arrangements, following recent revelations linking medical professionals to terror-related activities.
The step comes days after:
-
Several doctors were found involved in a major terror module,
-
A car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort on November 10, and
-
The recovery of arms and ammunition, including an AK rifle, from the locker of a doctor at GMC Anantnag on November 8.
Exercise Aimed at Transparency and Security
Principal of GMC Jammu, Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, said the checking process was part of a routine institutional exercise.
“We are conducting a check of all the lockers as part of a routine exercise. We have sought keys from the locker holders. They will be checked and re-allotted,” Dr. Gupta said.
“We maintain a logbook of all lockers. This is to ensure transparency.”
Similar inspections are simultaneously underway at SMGS Hospital, officials added.
Valley Hospitals Conducted Similar Checks Earlier
The move follows earlier locker inspections at GMC Srinagar and SMHS Hospital, carried out last week. That exercise was ordered through a circular issued by the Administrator of Associated Hospitals, Srinagar, in response to the arms recovery in Anantnag.
Authorities said that the inspection drives aim to ensure accountability, transparency, and security across all associated medical institutions.
