Srinagar, October 9, 2025 : Leader of Opposition and BJP MLA Sunil Sharma on Wednesday asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) never intended to join the National Conference (NC) government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah following last year’s Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Sharma said the BJP was content with playing the role of a constructive opposition, and that its doors were firmly shut to any alliance with the NC.
Reacting to Omar Abdullah’s recent remarks that he had the option to form a government with the BJP, Sharma said,
“I don’t know what dream he had in which the BJP offered to form the government. If any BJP leader ever made such an offer, he should name them publicly — otherwise, stop spreading lies.”
He accused Abdullah of misleading people for political mileage, saying the BJP had neither approached nor desired any partnership with the NC.
“Our doors are closed for him. The BJP does not need the NC to form the government. If he claims otherwise, let him prove it — or apologise to the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Sharma said.
Referring to Abdullah’s comments in Achabal that joining hands with the BJP might have hastened statehood restoration, Sharma countered that it was Abdullah who tried to approach the BJP but was rejected.
“You knock on BJP’s doors and when turned away, you cry foul. This is political hypocrisy of the highest order,” he remarked.
The LoP accused the Abdullah family of double standards, claiming they “seek friendship in Delhi but create hostility against the Centre in Kashmir.”
He also slammed the NC for using statehood rhetoric as a political tool, saying:
“People of J&K do not want a statehood that brings back shutdowns, stone-pelting and violence. We want peace and progress, not the chaos of the past.”
Sharma further said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah should focus on governance rather than complaining about lack of power.
“The L-G has approved 97 of his files so far. Let him name one file that was rejected. He must stop misleading people,” Sharma said.
He also thanked the Central government for releasing ₹171 crore as the 21st instalment of PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi to benefit over 8.5 lakh farmers in J&K.
