Jammu, February 24, 2026 : The Indian Army on Tuesday said that canine soldier Tyson, a German Shepherd who was injured while leading troops during Operation Trashi-I in Kishtwar district, is recovering well and remains in high spirits.

Tyson played a decisive role in the counter-terror operation by taking the first bullet while spearheading the entry of troops into a terrorist hideout — a mudhouse (dhok) located in the foothills at Passerkut in the Chatroo belt of Kishtwar. His fearless action enabled security forces to neutralise Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad commander Saifullah and two of his associates.

In a post on X, the White Knight Corps said that Tyson displayed extraordinary courage by pressing forward despite being hit, forcing the terrorists to open fire and thereby confirming their presence. This crucial moment allowed the Army, along with police and CRPF personnel, to precisely engage and eliminate the militants.

“Wounded yet alert and recovering well, Tyson exemplifies unwavering devotion to duty — a true warrior and a soldier in every sense,” the Army said, adding that the operation reaffirmed the resolve of the forces to deny sanctuary to those attempting to disturb peace.

After sustaining an injury to one of his front legs, the K9 soldier was swiftly evacuated by helicopter and admitted to a veterinary hospital for specialised care. Officials said his condition is stable and improving.

The General Officer Commanding of the White Knight Corps, P K Mishra, visited Tyson at the veterinary facility, reviewed his medical condition, and interacted with the attending veterinary team. He directed that the best possible care be ensured and lauded the critical role played by Army dog units in counter-terrorism operations.

Tyson’s bravery has drawn widespread admiration, highlighting the indispensable contribution of canine soldiers in safeguarding national security.
