Srinagar, September 19, 2025 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested a Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officer after he was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 in Srinagar.

The Arrest

Officials identified the accused as Sargaraz Ahmad Bhat, serving as State Sales Tax Officer at the Silk Factory office, Solina, Srinagar. Acting on a complaint, the CBI laid a trap and apprehended him during the transaction.

“The officer was taken into custody immediately after the exchange, and the bribe money was seized from his possession,” an official confirmed.

Case Registered

A formal case has been registered against the accused, and further investigations are underway to determine whether he was involved in other instances of corrupt practices.

Anti-Corruption Drive

Officials said the arrest highlights the CBI’s continued efforts to curb corruption in government departments and ensure greater transparency and accountability among public officials.
