Srinagar, October 13, 2025 : Three candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday filed their nomination papers for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections being held for four seats in Jammu and Kashmir.
The BJP has fielded Sat Sharma, Ali Mohammad Mir, and Rakesh Mahajan for three of the four seats. The nominations were submitted before Manoj Kumar Pandita, Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and the Returning Officer for the polls.
The BJP candidates were accompanied by Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Dr. Jitendra Singh, Rajya Sabha member Ghulam Ali Khatana, and other senior party leaders.
Speaking to reporters, Leader of Opposition and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma said the party is contesting three seats and will make every effort to ensure victory on all.
“We will do whatever it takes to win all three seats on which we have fielded candidates,” Sharma said.
Earlier, the BJP candidates began their nomination procession from the party headquarters at Jawahar Nagar and proceeded to the Assembly complex, accompanied by a large number of MLAs and party leaders from across the Valley.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued three separate notifications for the four Rajya Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir—two seats are being contested under a common notification, while the remaining two are under individual notifications.
With the current effective strength of 88 MLAs in the J&K Legislative Assembly, the BJP, which holds 28 seats, is assured of one win but will need support from non-BJP MLAs or strategic abstentions to secure additional seats.
