Jammu, October 16, 2025 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday announced the revival of the traditional bi-annual Darbar Move practice in Jammu and Kashmir, ending a four-year pause since it was halted in 2021 by the Lieutenant Governor’s administration.
Addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister said the Cabinet has approved the proposal and that the Lieutenant Governor has cleared the file for resumption.
“The government is reviving the practice soon,” he confirmed.
The Darbar Move, a 150-year-old tradition started by Maharaja Gulab Singh in 1872, involves shifting the capital between Jammu during winters and Srinagar during summers, ensuring administrative accessibility to both regions.
The practice, symbolic of Jammu and Kashmir’s unity and administrative balance, had been discontinued in 2021 citing logistical and financial reasons.
