Srinagar, October 3, 2025 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a high-level meeting at the Civil Secretariat on Friday to review preparedness measures across departments in view of a weather advisory issued by the Meteorological Centre J&K.
The MET forecast an active Western Disturbance expected to affect Jammu and Kashmir from October 4, bringing rain and snowfall to several areas. The Chief Minister emphasized that all departments and district administrations must remain fully prepared to minimize damage to fruit crops, ensure uninterrupted essential services, and maintain road connectivity during the weather event.
The meeting was attended by key officials including Ministers Javid Ahmed Dar (Agriculture) and Satish Sharma (Food, Civil Supplies & Transport), Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretaries Shaleen Kabra and Dheeraj Gupta, Principal Secretary Home and PWD, Secretaries of Education, Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, MD KPDCL, Chief Engineers of Irrigation & Flood Control, PHE, Project SAMPARK and BEACON, with other officers joining virtually.
Key Directives from the Chief Minister:

Agriculture & Horticulture Departments: Issue timely advisories to farmers and orchardists; ensure smooth transport of fruit to terminal markets during peak harvest.

Public Works and National Highway Agencies (NHAI, NHIDCL, SAMPARK, BEACON): Keep machinery on standby for snow and debris clearance; maintain uninterrupted road connectivity.

Power Development & Jal Shakti Departments: Deploy quick-response teams for restoration of electricity and water supply.

Disaster Management Department: Activate control rooms; maintain close coordination with district administrations for 24/7 monitoring.

Police & Traffic Authorities: Regulate vehicular movement; issue travel advisories to safeguard public safety.

Health Department: Ensure ambulances at vulnerable spots; identify patients needing urgent evacuation.

Information Department: Disseminate timely weather updates and advisories through all channels.
The Chief Minister also reviewed stock levels of ration, medicines, fuel, and LPG, which were found sufficient till November, with replenishment underway. He instructed designation of specific roads to agencies for snow and debris clearance to avoid duplication and confusion, stressing the need for continuous clearance operations.
Highlighting the importance of coordinated action, Omar Abdullah said, “The government’s top priority is to remain fully prepared and responsive to any situation arising from the anticipated weather disturbance. Every department must work in close coordination to safeguard people, prevent loss to crops, and protect vital infrastructure.”
