Ganderbal, February 24, 2026 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for major development projects worth ₹84.41 crore in the Ganderbal constituency, marking a decisive push towards strengthening infrastructure, healthcare, sanitation, drinking water supply, education and road connectivity across the district.
The projects, spanning multiple departments, were inaugurated and e-launched at various locations, reflecting the government’s focus on balanced, inclusive and need-based development.
At Beehama, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the ₹7.70 crore Beautification and Development Project of Ganderbal Town under the Housing & Urban Development Department. Executed by the PWD, the project includes construction of a grand entry gate and a municipal guest house, upgradation of the MC Terminal into a Smart Library, development of play areas and club facilities, improvement of streets and pathways through cobble stone and tiling works, installation of street lights and garbage bins, and façade improvement with murals and market colour-coding to enhance the town’s aesthetic appeal.
He also laid the foundation stone for the ₹7.50 crore road project connecting Bus Adda to the District Hospital, including widening of Mirani Chowk, aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving mobility.
At District Hospital Ganderbal, the Chief Minister inaugurated a CT Scan Machine installed at a cost of ₹8.40 crore, significantly boosting diagnostic and healthcare facilities for the district.
At Rakhi Harran, he laid the foundation stone for a 4.5 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant under SBM 2.0, costing ₹19.99 crore, expected to substantially improve sanitation standards and environmental sustainability in Ganderbal town.
From Dak Bungalow Ganderbal, the Chief Minister e-inaugurated several water supply schemes under the Jal Shakti Department and Jal Jeevan Mission, including:

He also e-laid foundation stones for:

Improvement of Kohistan Colony Canal Roads and allied works amounting to ₹3.79 crore
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said development must result in tangible improvements in people’s daily lives.
“From healthcare and sanitation to roads, schools and drinking water, these projects reflect our resolve to ensure comprehensive development of Ganderbal. Our focus is on timely execution and quality outcomes,” he said.
He emphasised that investments in urban beautification, clean water, modern healthcare and connectivity would strengthen public services, generate economic opportunities and enhance overall quality of life.
On the occasion, Omar Abdullah also distributed Mission Yuva disbursal letters worth ₹55 lakh among beneficiaries.
Later, the Chief Minister held a public interaction at Dak Bungalow Ganderbal, listening to grievances and demands from delegations across the district, including issues related to drinking water, lift irrigation, sports infrastructure, fire services and school upgradation.
Minister for Health & Medical Education Sakina Itoo, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Jatin Kishore, SSP Ganderbal Khalil Poswal and senior officers accompanied the Chief Minister. Minister for Jal Shakti Javed Ahmed Rana participated virtually.
