Kishtwar, Aug 16,2025 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday announced ex-gratia relief for victims of the devastating cloudburst-triggered flash flood in Kishtwar.
Families of the deceased will receive ₹2 lakh each, while ₹1 lakh will be given to the severely injured and ₹50,000 to those with minor injuries. From the CM’s Relief Fund, the government will also provide ₹1 lakh for fully damaged houses, ₹50,000 for severely damaged structures, and ₹25,000 for partially damaged ones.
The announcement came during Abdullah’s visit to the affected areas, where he met families of victims and reviewed ongoing rescue operations. He also used a Virtual Reality (VR) headset to assess the scale of destruction and directed officials to ensure immediate restoration of damaged infrastructure.
Expressing sorrow over the tragedy, the Chief Minister said, “The government stands firmly with the people in this hour of grief. Immediate relief and rehabilitation will be ensured.”
The flash flood struck Chasoti village along the Machail Mata Yatra route on Thursday, flattening homes, temples, markets, and security posts, leaving at least 60 dead and dozens missing.
