SRINAGAR, April 11, 2026 : The Indian National Congress on Saturday strongly criticized the continued delay in the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, terming it “unacceptable” and reiterating its commitment to safeguard the rights and aspirations of the people.
The meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee was held in Srinagar, where key party functionaries, including coordinators and district presidents from across Kashmir, participated to review ongoing organizational activities. The session was chaired by JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra.
During the meeting, Karra assessed feedback from various districts and emphasized the importance of strengthening grassroots political engagement. Special focus was laid on the party’s flagship campaign, Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq, which aims to mobilize public support and build momentum for the restoration of full statehood.
Addressing party leaders, Karra urged them to intensify outreach efforts and ensure maximum public participation in the movement. He stressed that the campaign must send a strong and unified message to the Centre regarding the urgency of restoring democratic rights.
“We need to further gear up our political activities at the grassroots level and ensure active involvement of the people in our indigenous movement,” Karra said, underlining the importance of public connect in the ongoing struggle.
Highlighting public sentiment, Karra stated that people have high expectations from the Congress party, viewing it as a capable force to address their grievances and protect their rights. He reiterated that the party remains committed to representing the voice of the people and delivering justice.
Reaffirming the party’s resolve, Karra added that Congress is prepared to face political challenges of any nature and is confident of overcoming them through democratic means.
The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge to strengthen the movement and continue pressing for the early restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
