Jammu, March 6, 2026 : The Indian National Congress in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday announced that it will hold protests across district headquarters on March 9 against the recently announced India–US trade deal.
J&K Congress president Tariq Hameed Karra made the announcement while addressing a rally in the R. S. Pura border belt of Jammu. During his address, Karra strongly criticised the agreement and demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the deal compromises India’s national interests.
Karra accused the Prime Minister of “surrendering” before US President Donald Trump and claimed that the agreement undermines the dignity and sovereignty of the country. He described the trade deal as “anti-farmer and anti-people”, alleging that it could negatively impact domestic economic interests.
The Congress leader also alleged that the government had bowed to external pressure on foreign policy matters and claimed that India’s established diplomatic stance had been weakened under the current administration.
Referring to criticism from the national leadership of the party, Karra said Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, had also raised concerns regarding the trade deal and warned that the country’s interests could be at stake.
According to Karra, the protests scheduled for March 9 will coincide with the beginning of the second phase of the Budget Session of Parliament, and demonstrations will be organised across various districts of the Union Territory.
He further said the Congress is also planning to launch a yatra across Jammu and Kashmir to mobilise public opinion against the trade agreement and to reiterate the party’s demand for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
