Jammu, March 6, 2026 : Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) has issued a clarification regarding the Digital Door Number (DDN) plates being installed on properties across Jammu city, stating that the initiative is purely meant for identification purposes and to improve delivery of civic and e-governance services.
According to officials, the digital door numbering system is part of the smart city framework aimed at strengthening urban management, streamlining record-keeping, and ensuring efficient public service delivery. The numbered plates will help authorities in mapping properties accurately and assist residents in accessing municipal and government services more efficiently.
In a public notice issued jointly by Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and JSCL, authorities clarified that the installation of DDN plates should not be interpreted as proof of ownership or any form of legal validation of a property.
The notice clearly states that the digital numbering system does not grant any right, title, ownership, possession, or interest in any land or property. It also cannot be used as evidence for legal ownership, regularization, or authorization of any building or structure.
Officials further emphasized that the initiative does not alter or impact existing municipal, revenue, or land records maintained by government departments. All legal ownership and property-related matters will continue to be governed by the existing records and laws.
The authorities have advised residents, property owners, and other stakeholders to understand the purpose of the DDN initiative and avoid any misunderstanding regarding its legal standing.
The digital door numbering project is expected to help authorities build a comprehensive property database, improve emergency response services, and facilitate smoother delivery of civic amenities under the Smart City mission.
