Jammu, July 27, 2025 : Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Sunday visited the family of Parvez Ahmad, the 21-year-old youth killed in recent police firing in Jammu, and demanded a transparent and impartial investigation into the incident.
Parvez, a member of the Gujjar community from the Nikki Tawi area, was shot dead on Thursday in Satwari, during what police claim was a chase involving drug peddlers. His death has sparked community outrage and protests, with the family alleging that he was killed in a staged encounter by plain-clothed police personnel.
“This appears to be a broad daylight murder by the special branch of police operating in civilian clothes. An impartial probe must be conducted, and strict action taken against those responsible,” Choudhary told reporters after meeting the bereaved family.
Demands for Accountability and Support
Choudhary also questioned the delay in implementing the compensation package of ₹35 lakh and the promised government job for Parvez’s family.
“Who gave the orders for armed policemen to move around in civilian attire like gangsters and open fire on an innocent youth, who was married just one and a half months ago?” he asked.
He called for the registration of a murder case against the personnel involved and reminded senior police officials of their commitment to the family.
Investigation Status
So far, two policemen have been suspended, and a magisterial inquiry has been ordered. An additional departmental investigation is being conducted under the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Jammu South.
“Our police force is known for its service and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. It has never targeted innocent civilians. The Omar Abdullah-led government will not tolerate such incidents,” Choudhary stated, asserting that the matter does not end with the funeral.
A Family Committed to Upliftment
Choudhary also lauded the victim’s family for their efforts to promote wrestling and keep local youth away from drugs, highlighting the tragedy as a blow to a family committed to community development.
