New Delhi, February 24, 2026 : In a major boost to rail connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, Northern Railway has announced the extension of the Vande Bharat Express to run directly between Srinagar and Jammu from March 1, 2026.
According to an official communication, the SVDK–SINA–SVDK Vande Bharat Express will be extended up to Jammu Tawi with effect from March 1. The semi-high-speed train was earlier operating between Srinagar and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and will now provide seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu region.
To cater to the anticipated surge in passenger demand, the Railways have also enhanced the train’s capacity, increasing the rake composition from an 8-coach Vande Bharat set to a 20-coach rake.
Officials said the extension is aimed at strengthening all-weather rail connectivity, reducing travel time, and offering a modern, comfortable travel experience for passengers commuting between Srinagar and Jammu.
The move is expected to significantly benefit tourism, trade, and daily commuters, while marking another milestone in expanding premium rail services in Jammu and Kashmir.
