JAMMU, Aug 22, 2025 : District Magistrate Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, on Friday clarified that the administration’s recent order on vehicle modifications is not a blanket ban but is aimed specifically at preventing unsafe alterations.
He said the order prohibits changes to a vehicle’s original dimensions and chassis, along with restrictions on tinted glasses, pressure horns, bull guards, and other modifications that compromise safety.
Addressing concerns from traders and vehicle owners, Dr. Minhas emphasized that cosmetic and aesthetic upgrades—such as alloy wheels, paintwork, or other minor enhancements—are allowed as long as they comply with legal safety norms.
“Just as one cannot alter the structural framework of a house but can change its color or fittings, the same principle applies to vehicles. Modifications that don’t affect fundamental design or safety are not barred,” he explained.
The clarification, issued after consultations with traffic police, seeks to allay apprehensions among citizens and the automobile trade community.
