JAMMU, November 1, 2025 : In a significant move aimed at strengthening local security ahead of the Darbar Move, the District Magistrate (DM) Jammu, Rakesh Minhas, has directed all landlords, property owners, and business establishments to submit details of tenants, domestic helpers, and employees to the local police within seven days.
The directive, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), follows a report from the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, highlighting the need for enhanced verification measures.
According to the order, the required details must be furnished through a declaration form—signed by both owner and tenant/employee—and submitted either in person or via registered post to the concerned Station House Officer (SHO).
Those who already have tenants or employees must comply by November 6, while future arrangements will need to be reported within seven days of engagement. Every police station in Jammu district will maintain a dedicated register for tenant and employee verification records.
The order covers all forms of rental or employment arrangements, including paying guests, domestic staff, and commercial workers, and warns that violations will invite legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The move coincides with the reopening of move offices in Jammu on November 3, following their closure in Srinagar on October 31, under the recently revived ‘Darbar Move’ tradition—a practice reinstated by the Omar Abdullah Government on October 16 after being scrapped in 2021.
