SRINAGAR, July 25, 2025 : The Economic Offences Wing (EoW), formerly Crime Branch Kashmir, has registered an FIR against a resident of Anantnag district for allegedly defrauding multiple individuals and farmers by falsely promising to supply high-density apple plants.
According to officials, the accused, Shahid Rehman of Shangus, Nowgam, Anantnag, and proprietor of M/s AR Trading Agri Services Pvt. Ltd., collected large sums of money from numerous complainants with the assurance of delivering premium apple plants. However, after receiving the funds, he neither delivered the promised plants nor returned the money and has since gone into hiding.
An official spokesperson of the Economic Offences Wing said that preliminary scrutiny of bank transaction records submitted by the complainants indicates that the accused has allegedly siphoned off crores of rupees from innocent farmers and customers.
“The criminal conduct of the accused prima facie discloses the commission of an offence punishable under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023,” the spokesman said.
Taking cognizance of the matter, a case has been formally registered at Police Station Economic Offences Wing, and further investigation is underway.
