SRINAGAR, November 4, 2025 : The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir has secured the conviction of Mohammad Shafi Banday, a 93-year-old former Managing Director of J&K Cooperative Central Land Development Ltd, for forgery and manipulation of his date of birth to unlawfully extend his tenure.
Investigations revealed Banday had fraudulently recorded his birth year as 1939 instead of 1932, enabling him to overstay in service for more than seven years, causing loss to the state exchequer.
The City Judge, Srinagar, sentenced the accused to two years of simple imprisonment on each count and imposed a fine of ₹5,000 per offence, with all sentences to run concurrently.
