New Delhi, July 12, 2025 : Families of over 20 CRPF personnel martyred in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack gathered at the Congress headquarters on 24 Akbar Road, seeking justice and accountability for the tragic incident that claimed 40 lives.

The attack, which shook the nation on February 14, 2019, occurred when a suicide bomber affiliated with the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror group rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a convoy of CRPF jawans in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama, pushing India and Pakistan to the brink of war.

Relatives of the martyrs from Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan were in attendance, hosted as part of the ‘Pulwama Shaheed Samman Programme’ organized by the Congress Ex-Servicemen Department. The department’s national chairman, Col Rohit Chaudhry, said the event aimed to pay tribute to the soldiers’ sacrifice and provide continued support to their families.

“The loss these families have endured is beyond compensation. This initiative reflects the Congress party’s commitment, especially that of Rahul Gandhi, to stand by them. A financial assistance of ₹1 lakh was given to each family,” Chaudhry stated.

The families, however, expressed deep dissatisfaction with the government’s silence on critical questions surrounding the attack, alleging a lack of transparency and accountability even after six years.

“We still await justice. No one has been held responsible. The attack doesn’t seem like an accident—it feels like a larger internal failure,” several family members said during the interaction.

They raised pointed questions, asking:

  • Why was the convoy not airlifted despite prior threats?

  • How did over 300 kg of RDX enter a high-security zone?

  • Why has no action been taken despite reports of intelligence failure?

Many accused the government of neglecting the sacrifice of the martyrs and demanded an independent investigation to bring clarity and closure.

Congress leaders pledged continued social, legal, and emotional support to the families, and reiterated their demand for the government to come clean on unanswered aspects of the Pulwama attack.
