SRINAGAR, April 10, 2026 : National Conference supremo Farooq Abdullah on Friday termed as “unfortunate” the calls for awarding a Nobel Peace Prize to leaders in Pakistan for their alleged role in facilitating peace talks between the United States and Iran.
“Work for Humanity, Not Awards”
Reacting to demands for a Nobel Prize for Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Army Chief Asim Munir, and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Abdullah said such recognition should not be the goal.
“One doesn’t work for the Nobel Prize, one works for humanity. Those who demand the Nobel Prize, it is unfortunate. The cause of humanity is far greater,” he said.
Emphasis on Peace Over Recognition
Speaking after Friday prayers at the Hazratbal shrine, Abdullah stressed that wars bring suffering to humanity and must be avoided.
“Humanity suffers due to wars, and it is humanity that must be saved,” he said.
Hope for Lasting Peace
Welcoming the cessation of hostilities, he expressed hope that peace would prevail globally.
“We should be grateful that the war has stopped. May conflicts end completely and peace prevail so that everyone benefits,” he added.
Conclusion
Abdullah’s remarks underscore a broader message that global peace efforts should be driven by humanitarian concerns rather than the pursuit of international recognition.
