Jammu, Sep 11, 2025 : Shamas Udin Malik, father of AAP MLA Mehraj Malik, who is currently detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Doda, has appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his son’s immediate release, calling the legal process too long and emotionally unbearable.
Shamas Udin met the Chief Minister and urged him to intervene directly with the Lieutenant Governor, stating, “I cannot keep fighting in courts. I gave my son to the people; now I want him back.” He emphasized the emotional turmoil faced by Malik’s family, especially his four daughters and mother, who are devastated by the prolonged detention.
Malik, known for his outspoken criticism of the government, was arrested on Monday and lodged in Kathua jail, accused of disturbing public peace. Protests erupted across Doda, with authorities imposing prohibitory orders and detaining over 70 people amid violent clashes that injured eight police personnel.
Shamas Udin strongly alleged that the PSA was imposed due to a personal vendetta between his son and the Deputy Commissioner. “Several sections of the PSA were imposed because of a personal clash over public issues. The DC should be suspended, and my son should be released,” he said.
Refuting accusations that Malik hurt Sikh sentiments, Shamas Udin added, “Ask Sikh officers and neighbors about the good relationship my son maintained over the years.”
Malik’s detention has ignited widespread political unrest in Jammu and Kashmir, with many demanding justice and a fair probe.
