Ganderbal, October 24, 2025 :The Ganderbal Police have booked three hotel owners in the Sonamarg tourist destination for violating the Immigration and Foreigners Act by failing to report details of foreign tourists to the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) within the mandated timeframe.
The action, taken under the supervision of SSP Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal (JKPS), followed a comprehensive inspection drive across Sonamarg’s hospitality establishments.
Hotels Found in Violation
During the inspection, it was found that Hotel Mount View, Hotel Imperial Resort, and Hotel Village Walk had accommodated foreign nationals without submitting timely information to the FRO — a clear violation of Section 17 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.
Taking cognizance of these violations, Police Station Sonamarg registered three separate FIRs — FIR No. 25/2025, 26/2025, and 27/2025 — under Section 8/23(b) of the Act against the respective hotel owners.
Police Advisory To Hoteliers
Authorities have urged all hotels, lodges, and guesthouses in Ganderbal district, particularly those catering to foreign visitors, to strictly comply with registration and reporting guidelines.
The police emphasized that timely submission of guest details to the FRO is a legal requirement crucial for national security and regulatory oversight.
“Ganderbal Police remain committed to enforcing the law, ensuring accountability, and upholding transparency in the hospitality sector,” the official statement added.
