Jammu, November 5, 2025:
A fierce encounter is underway between terrorists and security forces in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
According to the Army’s White Knight Corps, the gun battle erupted early this morning following an intelligence-based joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
“In an intelligence-based operation launched in coordination with the J&K Police, alert troops of the White Knight Corps established contact with terrorists in the general area of Chhatru. The operation is in progress,” the Corps said in a post on X.
Initial reports suggest that two to three terrorists are engaged in the firefight, while one jawan sustained minor injuries. Security forces have cordoned off the area, maintaining constant surveillance over the rugged terrain.
Kishtwar district — which borders Doda and Udhampur — has witnessed a surge in militant activity this year, with six encounters in the past seven months as forces intensify their crackdown on Pakistan-based terrorists operating from the upper reaches.
In previous incidents:
-
September 21: A gunfight broke out in the Chhatru area.
-
September 13: Two Army personnel, including a JCO, were martyred and two others injured in Naidgram.
-
August 11 & July 2: Encounters in Dul and Chhatru belts saw terrorists escape after brief exchanges.
-
May 22: A soldier and two terrorists were killed in Singapore area, Chhatru.
-
April 12: Three terrorists were neutralised in Kishtwar; an infiltration bid foiled in the Akhnoor sector.
The ongoing encounter underscores the renewed militant push in the Chenab Valley region and the continued vigilance of security forces battling terrorism in high-altitude zones.
