RAJOURI, April 4, 2026 : In a major anti-corruption action, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday trapped and arrested a police head constable in Rajouri district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000.
The accused, identified as Head Constable Muhammad Ilyas, was posted at Police Station Thanamandi in Rajouri.
Complaint Triggered Action
The operation was initiated following a complaint by Abdul Hamid, a resident of Reasi, who alleged that the officer demanded money for releasing his vehicle involved in an accident.
The complainant claimed he had already paid ₹5,000 earlier, but was being pressured to pay an additional ₹10,000.
Caught Red-Handed
Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap operation and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe amount.
Officials confirmed that the accused was immediately taken into custody.
Harassment Alleged
According to the complainant, the officer allegedly threatened to delay the case and withhold the vehicle release if the demanded amount was not paid.
The accident reportedly occurred while the complainant was travelling towards Shahdra Sharif.
Investigation Underway
A case has been registered, and further investigation is currently in progress to examine all aspects of the bribery allegations.
