Srinagar, March 30, 2026 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Pulwama MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para on Monday termed the issue of daily wagers’ regularisation in Jammu and Kashmir a “humanitarian concern”, urging immediate and compassionate action from the government.
🧑🔧 Critical Workforce, Yet Unrecognized
Speaking outside the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Para highlighted that:
- Nearly 1 lakh daily wagers are working
- Serving in essential sectors like hospitals, ambulances, PHE, and irrigation
- Ensuring round-the-clock public services
“This is not merely employment — it’s a humanitarian issue,” he stressed.
⚖️ Long Years, No Security
Para pointed out that many workers:
- Have served 20–30 years
- Still lack job security, recognition, and benefits
He termed the situation unjust, saying denying them employee status after decades of service is “a betrayal.”
🔧 Key Demands & Suggestions
The PDP MLA called for:
- Phased regularisation process
- Revival of biometric identification systems
- Reintroduction of SRO-based frameworks for employee recognition
- Cross-party consensus to resolve the issue
🏛️ Broader Governance Push
Beyond the wage issue, Waheed-ur-Rehman Para also advocated:
- Creation of new districts and divisions for better governance
- Policy discussions on alcohol regulation aligned with public sentiment
