Jammu, August 24, 2025 : At least 45 students of the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM) were rescued on Sunday after floodwaters submerged the ground floor of their hostel in Jammu.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police, using boats and manpower, carried out a five-hour-long operation to safely evacuate the trapped students.
IIIM Director Dr. Zabeer Ahmed said the institute has arranged safe accommodation for the students and urged parents not to panic. “We mobilised resources, including dewatering pumps, to ensure students’ safety. Alternative arrangements are in place,” he assured.
Several students living on the ground floor reported losses to their belongings after being forced to shift upstairs when water levels rose rapidly.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall triggered widespread damage in Jammu city — a portion of road near Tawi bridge caved in, a culvert at the bus stand collapsed, and floodwaters entered low-lying areas, damaging boundary walls and vehicles.
