NEW DELHI, February 23, 2026 : The Government of India on Monday advised all Indian nationals residing in Iran to leave the country by all available means, including commercial flights, in view of the rapidly evolving security situation.

The advisory was issued by the Indian Embassy in Iran amid fresh protests in Tehran and growing concerns over potential US military action against the Gulf nation. Student-led anti-government demonstrations have reportedly erupted at several Iranian universities, marking the first such agitation since last month’s severe crackdown by authorities.

According to official estimates shared in January, over 10,000 Indian nationals, including students, pilgrims, businesspersons and tourists, are currently residing in Iran.

“In continuation of the advisory issued on January 5 and in view of the evolving situation in Iran, Indian nationals presently in Iran are advised to leave the country by available means of transport, including commercial flights,” the embassy said in its latest advisory.

The mission further urged Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) to exercise heightened caution, avoid areas witnessing protests or demonstrations, and remain in constant contact with the Indian Embassy.

“All Indian nationals are requested to keep their travel and immigration documents, including passports and identity cards, readily accessible at all times,” the advisory said, adding that the embassy remains available to provide assistance wherever required.
