Poonch, Jul 13, 2025: The NY 49 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) battalion of the Indian Army’s Romeo Force organized a Cricket Premier League (CPL) in the border region of Keri Kangra, near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. The event aimed to channel youth energy into constructive and sports-driven activities.
Held at the hilly Tarian ground, the tournament saw participation from 16 local teams, drawing enthusiastic support from residents and civil society leaders. The initiative was widely appreciated for fostering community bonding and promoting a drug-free lifestyle among the youth.
BJP Mandal President of Balakot, Manavar Hussain Khan, thanked the Indian Army for its continuous support. “The tournament, sponsored by 49 RR and supported by civil society, reflects the Army’s commitment to the region. Special thanks to CO and Major Utsav Kumar for making this possible,” he said.
He added, “Our youth must stay away from drugs. The Army’s message is clear — stand with your country, whether it’s defending the borders or engaging youth in positive initiatives.”
Local resident Khalid Mehmood Khan also praised the efforts of Major Utsav Kumar, saying, “We thank him from the bottom of our hearts. The tournament was well-organised and heartwarming.”
Another local, Taufiq Khan, highlighted the Army’s continuous presence and support. “Despite border tensions, the Indian Army stands with us. Organising a tournament like this in such circumstances is commendable.”
