Srinagar | September 24, 2025 : The Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet on Tuesday recommended convening a weeklong session of the Legislative Assembly from October 13, with approval now pending before Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and attended by Deputy CM Surinder Kumar Choudhary, cabinet colleagues, and Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo. Sources indicated the autumn session will likely conclude around October 20 and be held in Srinagar.

📌 Political Context:
The Assembly has witnessed turbulence in recent months. In April, the House was adjourned sine die after uproar over the Waqf (Amendment) Act, with Valley-based parties demanding a debate. More recently, a one-day session was held to unanimously condemn the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.
📌 Government Stand:
A government spokesperson said the cabinet also discussed governance and development priorities. “Several important decisions concerning public welfare, administrative efficiency, and developmental projects across J&K were taken,” the statement noted.
With the Opposition preparing to corner the government on civil liberties, flood relief, and policy delays, the session is likely to be one of the most contentious in recent years.
