New Delhi, Nov 13, 2024 :  Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and people of Indian origin living abroad and desiring to attend the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD), 2025, can now register for the event. A website with all details and the registration process was launched on Tuesday by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Minister of Odisha Mohan Charan Majhi.

The PBD-2025 is to be held from January 8 to 10 at Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The Ministry of External Affairs said the launch of the PBD website marks the commencement of online registration for participation in the convention.

The website will also facilitate reservation of accommodation in Odisha. The theme of the PBD convention is “Diaspora’s contribution to a Viksit Bharat”. It will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A youth edition of PBD will be held in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. President Droupadi Murmu will confer the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards and preside over the valedictory session.

While launching the website, EAM Jaishankar said Prime Minister Modi’s regular interactions with the diaspora during his official visits abroad and the unwavering support of the latter to India’s growth story are a testimony to the strong bonds shared between India and its global community. The EAM expressed confidence that the Indian diaspora will continue to play an important role in India’s march towards a Viksit Bharat. The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated to commemorate the arrival of Mahatma Gandhi in India from South Africa on January 9, 1915.

India has been celebrating the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas from 2003 to mark the contribution of the overseas Indian community in the development of the country. The last Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was held at Indore in Madhya Pradesh in 2023.
