Poonch, March 24, 2026: In a major action against proclaimed offenders, Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Police Station Surankote successfully apprehended five absconders wanted in multiple criminal cases, officials said on Tuesday.
The operation was carried out under the close supervision of SDPO Surankote, with special police teams constituted by the SHO Surankote. Acting on specific and credible inputs, the teams tracked down and arrested the accused who had been evading arrest for years.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Basharat Hussain, resident of Sangla, Surankote, involved in FIR No. 207/2018 under various sections of RPC, declared absconder in December 2024
- Mohd Iqbal, Ghulam Ahmed, and Mohd Sharief, all residents of Hari, Surankote, involved in FIR No. 284/2018, declared absconders in December 2018
- Mohd Akram, resident of Sangla, Surankote, involved in FIR No. 243/2012, declared absconder in March 2017
Police officials said the arrests were the result of sustained efforts and coordinated action by the teams on ground.
All accused have been produced before the competent court for further legal proceedings.
District Police Poonch reiterated its commitment to enforcing the rule of law and taking strict action against absconders and those involved in criminal activities.
